Museum of Natural History, Gothenburg

Anything from a ginormous 16-metre long whale calf right down to the tiniest of fossilised insects can be found inside the Museum of Natural History.

Established in 1833 in  the East India Building it now has a collection of 10 million animals, and has not surprisingly, moved to a new location  1.5km south-west of the city centre.

Brightly-lit halls are stuffed full with exhibitions on the history of life on Earth: fish, reptiles, birds, aquatic animals and mammals, the piece de resistance of which is an imposing African elephant. The Whale Hall is closed for a facelift but will be open again in 2021.
