High above the village of Les Baux de Provence is an 11th-century fortress set on rocky outcrop. Often attacked through the ages, it was finally left in ruins in 1632 but the site is still very much full of life.

Much points to the château’s historical and religious importance, including ancient chapels, a windmill, and the “Quiquerian” Hospital built during the French Wars of Religion in the 16th-century. A stroll around Baux Castle is just like wandering around the remains of a  small town high up above Provence with gorgeous views stretching over vineyards and mountains.

There are lots of mediaeval-themed events to catapult you back into the past during the summer season.
