A chronological exhibition which aims to contextualise Casa Vicens on an international level.
This temporary exhibition on the first floor of Casa Vicens displays 14 houses designed by some of Gaudí’s most important contemporaries. It spans a time period of around 150 years, starting in approximately 1850 with Viollet-le-Duc and William Morris, who were decisive in Gaudí’s education. The exhibition then progresses through some of the great architects of the first generation of the Modernist Movement, ending around 1900 with the architects of the next generation, Art Nouveau.
One house by each architect has been selected for the exhibition -the first house they ever built, their own house or a house designed as a manifest- in which they experimented with styles and forms that would later become characteristic of the architect’s work. There is a small-scale model of each house, accompanied by a screen of information and photos. The exhibition shows the chronological connections between these houses and Casa Vicens and elicits a dialogue between them.
