Glockenspiel, Munich

A clockwork sculpture retelling stories from Munich's past.

The Rathaus Glockenspiel is one of Munich’s most famous attractions attracting many tourists in Marienplatz square below to take pictures. At 11am, 12pm and, from March through October, 5pm, the figures in the glockenspiel switch on and perform stories from Munich’s history. The glockenspiel was constructed in 1908 and was restored in 2007. Depending on which story the glockenspiel is showing, the entire show lasts from between twelve to fifteen minutes.
