Featuring a wide range of works from 1580 to 1900, the Prat collection offers you the chance to view over three centuries of some of the most famous French artwork.

The Prat collection was first established in the 1970s by husband and wife and art historians Louis-Antoine and Véronique Prat. It is one of the largest collections of French art in the world, holding a variety of different styles from many different time periods.

The exhibition starts with a series of drawings from the 17th-century, focusing on the influence of Italy on artists such as Jacques Callot. The exhibition then moves on to the 18th-century, giving you the chance to see the transition between the extravagance of theate Baroque style and the more realistic paintings from artists such as Chardin and Greuze that emerged during the second half of the century. One of the standout artists that you’ll see in this section is Jacques-Louis David, whose paintings such as ‘The Oath of the Tennis Court’ give you a glimpse into the events of the French Revolution. The final part of the exhibition is dedicated to the 19th-century, where you’ll be able to see works by the likes of Delacroix and Ingres as well as sculptures by Auguste Rodin.

184 pieces from the collection are on show at the Petit Palais, where you’ll be guided through a rich history of French art.
