An enchanting labyrinth of small shops and cafes.
Shepherd Market, a labyrinth between Piccadilly and Curzon Street, was originally the site of the 15-day Mayfair established by James II. Renowned for the over-indulgence of the Mayfair revellers, the fair was banned in 1764 but Shepherd Market retains a lively reputation. It has been home to a host of illustrious characters, both fictional and real, and is sometimes described as 'The Heart of Mayfair.'
Mama Cass, of the Mamas and the Papas, died nearby at 9 Curzon Place in 1974, and Keith Moon of 'The Who' passed away from an overdose there in 1978.
Today it remains an enchanting area with many small shops, cafes and restaurants.
