Rivau Castle, Lémeré, Indre-et-Loire, France

The illustrious Beauvau family served the Kings of France during the 13th century, and the Château du Rivau is inextricably linked to their story.

In 1438, Pierre de Beauvau obtained the right to fortify his home with pits, walls, cannons and trenches, giving it the stereotypical mediaeval aesthetic it is known for today.

The castle is stuffed full of hunting trophies, good old-fashioned furniture and pieces of art and ‘new sound installation’ will hopefully  transport you back to the long bygone days of the French Renaissance.

Beyond the castle walls and in the courtyard, modern but beautiful gardens while the keep and drawbridge complete any child’s dream of seeing a  fairytale castle.
