Jan Bouman House, Potsdam

This museum was opened in 1997, despite the original structure being built in 1735. It is a brick gable house, popular during that time.

The museum is named after Jan Bouman who was an architect, shipbuilder, designer, craftsman and furniture maker and an important figure in encouraging Dutch craftsmen to move to Potsdam during the 18th-century as part of King Frederick William I’s expansion of the city.

Inside, you can see permanent exhibitions and special collections which give you an idea of what this era was like for Dutch people in Potsdam. It includes items such as spinning wheels, furniture, tiles and cooking utensils.
