Museum Rietberg, Zurich

A short stroll from the lakeside, next to the Rieter Park is the only museum in Switzerland dedicated to non-European cultures, which was established in 1952.

Architecturally, this building combines a neo-classical style, like the Villa Schönberg where Richard Wagner wrote Tristan and Isolde, with a contemporary glass pavilion, known as the Emerald, built in 2007. There are over 2000 years of art on show, from paintings and ceramics to carvings and carpet-weaving. Aside from the permanent collection, the museum stages special exhibitions.
