From rucksacks to despatch boxes, from Birkin bags to Louis Vuitton luggage, the exhibition "Bags: Inside Out" explores the style, function, design and craftsmanship of the ultimate accessory.
According to the organizers, it will be "the most complete exhibition in the United Kingdom dedicated to the accessory par excellence". Obviously, we are talking about bags and leather accessories.
On display there are about 300 pieces divided into three sections: Function, Status and Identity, Design and Making. Among the exhibited creations, a bag to hold a gas mask that belonged to Queen Mary during the Second World War. Or, the red model that Winston Churchill used for expeditions. But also a surprising Louis Vuitton trunk from the early 1900s and the iconic Margaret Thatcher bag.
There will also be Mulberry samples and prototypes and bags signed by Karl Lagerfeld, Fendi, Hermès, Anya Hindmarch and Off-White. The exhibition offers a "craftsman table". Here visitors will be able to "touch with their hands" the processes and materials necessary for the creation of the bags.
