Parish Church St. Gilgen, Lake Wolfgang, Salzburg

Although Mozart himself never visited the town, St Gilgen and its church are closely linked to the great musician’s extended family.

Wander through the streets which were once his grandfather’s place of work, the birthplace of his mother and the marital residence of his sister, Anna Maria. In the church, first documented in 1376 and partially rebuilt in 1767, you can stand right in front of their family tombs, and on the left wall examine the commemorative marble plaque to the family. Perched on the north-western shore of Lake Wolfgang, the summer is the perfect time to explore the town and its history.
