The Dulle Griet is a medieval large-calibre gun (a cannon) built in Mons (Bergen).
The Dulle Griet (which takes its name from the witch of Flemish folklore), also known as Groten Rooden Duyvele (Great Red Devil) because of its color, is a medieval cannon built in Mons.
The city actually produced three different cannons: one is located today in Scotland, Edinburgh and took the name of Mons Meg, the second was in France but was lost. The bombarda was built in wrought iron in the first half of the 15th century and was obtained from 32 longitudinal bars.
It was used in 1452 by the city of Ghent as a defense tool during the siege of Oudenaarde but, passing various events, it was returned to the city only in 1578.
Today, the bombard is located near the market square in the historic center.
