Museum of Applied Art, Cologne

In the centre of Cologne, a short walk from the Cathedral, is this museum, which exhibits 800 years of European craftsmanship, including ceramics, glass and textiles, as well as 5000 years of jewellery, showing the artistic variety of different eras, right up to the 21st-century.

Originally, the main part of the exhibition came from the collections of friends and fellow art collectors Ferdinand Franz Wallraf and Matthias Joseph de Noël, but soon expanded through endowments. After being destroyed during the Second World War, the museum moved from the Hansaring to its current and permanent location in the former building of the Wallraf-Richartz and Ludwig Museums at An-der-Rechtschule.
