Musée d'art Contemporain (CAPC), Bordeaux: All year

This warehouse-turned-art museum houses one of the most impressive collections of contemporary art in France.

The Entrepôt Lainé had humble beginnings as a colonial goods warehouse in 1824. Products such as sugar, coffee, spices, cotton and other foodstuffs were stored here. However, the building went through a revamp in 1974, becoming the Centre d’Art Plastique Contemporain under its first director, Jean-Louis Froment. Even in its early days, the museum was displaying works from artists such as Gina Pane and Andy Warhol and in 10 years it became the most important contemporary art museum in France after Centre Georges Pompidou. During this time it also went through a name change and started calling itself the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Bordeaux (Contemporary Art Museum of Bordeaux).

The museum combines both permanent and temporary exhibitions to give you a view of art over the past 40 years. Thanks to their partners, they also organise film screenings, theatrical performances, and exhibitions on architecture. And if all the art makes you thirsty, they have a cute roof terrace and café.
