If you’re near the Place de la Bourse, then pay a visit to the lovely italian-style Place du Parlement as well.
The square was created in 1760 to host the royal marketplace, but during the French Revolution it was renamed Place de la Liberté (Liberty square). Ironically the current name, Place du Parlement, is only to honour the parliament that was in Bordeaux from 1451 to 1790, not because any parliament actually sat there. The surrounding 18th-century buildings bordering the square are quite simple but include architectural features such as decorative mascarons and wrought iron balconies. The elegant fountain in the centre of the square is a later installation, designed in 1865 by famous Bordeaux architect Louis-Michel Garros. The Place du Parlement may not be as grand as other squares in Bordeaux, but has a good selection of restaurants and café and a pleasant atmosphere. It can be especially charming to wander around in the evening.
