Galliate Castle, Galliate (Novara), Piedmont, Italy: All year

The Galliate Castle is a 10th-century castle in Galliate, Novara, through which you can explore Italy's past and present glory.

The Sforzesco Castle of Galliate takes you back to the grandeur and architectural beauty of Renaissance Italy. Originally, the castle was built in the 10th century, and was rebuilt by Barbarossa in 1168, by Filippo Maria Visconti in 1413, and by the Sforza family of Milan in the late 15th century. The castle’s exterior maintained its Renaissance architectural features, such as the grand entrance tower, the curtain wall and the garden, but the walls in the west side were rebuilt in neo-Gothic style in the 20th century. Check out the neo-Renaissance rooms, the decorated ceiling, and the Crivelli’s statues in the east wing, the civic library and the 17th and 19th-century paintings in the southwest wing, and the Angelo Bozzola museum in the northeast tower.
