The Piovera Castle gives you a glimpse of how the nobility lived in the medieval times.
While the origins of the castle are difficult to establish, the first records of the castle date back to the 10th century. It was rebuilt for defence in the 14th century on the ruins of a monastery by the Visconti of Milan. It was owned by several ruling families of the region, such as the Visconti family, the Mandelli, the Sforza, the Gallarati, and the Marquises Balbi. The castle’s current owner, the Count Niccolò Calvi di Bergolo exhibits his own artworks in the castle and holds creative art lessons. Explore the authentically furnished rooms, the 19th-century Orangerie, and the original 10th-century tower in the southeast corner.
