Sempione Park, Milan

Parco Sempione is a large park behind the Sforzesco Castle in Milan.

Parco Sempione is a large park behind the Sforzesco Castle in Milan. Within the park are many monuments and important structures. It is a very special park with curving paths, areas of grass, and fairytale bridges.

When the park was created back in the 14th century, it was used as a hunting ground for the ruling family of Milan.  However, things have changed drastically since then.  Many buildings were constructed in honor of Napoleon.

The Arena Civica from 1806 was used for chariot races, games, and competitions which is still in use today.  The Arco della Pace is the famous arch dedicated to Napoleon.  Then there is the Acquario Civico, an acquarium from the 1906 Milan World Expo which is beautifully decorated with vibrant tiles.

Parco Sempione is very popular during the warmer months and is a great place to relax.
