Nymphenburg Park, Munich

During the summer of 1763, it’s rumoured that Mozart and his sister Nannerl wandered through the park to catch Elector Maximillian Joseph III’s attention as he looked out from Nyphenburg Palace.

It must have worked, as the pair were invited to perform a concert that evening in front of the Elector and the Bavarian nobility. Modelled on the English style of modern landscape gardens in the early 18th-century, today entrance is free into the 180 hectares of parkland. Be sure to admire the four parkburgen (park palaces) dotted around, particularly the elegant Badenburg bathing palace which the Mozart children marvelled at during their visit.
