The Jacobins Church, Toulouse

A former church of the Dominican Order, also known as Jacobins, which now functions as a museum.

This huge church of the Jacobins, a branch of the Catholic Church, was built between 1230 and 1350.Saint Thomas Aquinas (1255 to 1274), a founding figure of the order, is buried beneath the altar.

Jacobins were banned after the French Revolution (1789) and the church was deconsecrated. Today it is a museum.

While the church’s brick exterior is fairly simple you can go inside and marvel at the intricate stained-glass windows. Gaze up at the 13th-century vaulted roof, supported by a huge column topped with wooden beams known as the “Palm Tree of the Jacobins”.
