Saint Stephen's Cathredal, Toulouse

A Roman Catholic Cathedral and seat of Toulouse’s Archbishop.

At first glance, you can’t be blamed for finding this large cathedral confusing. It’s a jumble of mismatched gothic styles because it is composed of two different 13th-century churches.

The cathedral’s facade with its spectacular rose window is a fine example of early 13th-century Southern French gothic architecture but it looks strangely out of kilter with the late 13th-century bell tower. The contrast between the two styles of gothic architecture continues inside and you’ll see that the different parts of the cathedral don’t quite line up.

When you go inside, make sure you get a chance to admire the 17th-century tapestries decorating the walls.
