Museum of Childhood, Edinburgh

As the first museum of its kind in the world, Edinburgh’s Museum of Childhood is a huge collection of children’s toys from the 18th-century right up to the modern day.

The collection originally belonged to Patrick Murray, an Edinburgh Councillor and toy collector, who opened the museum on the Royal Mile in 1955. Inside you’ll find everything from the Queen Anne Doll (the oldest in the collection dating back to the 1740s) to a Raleigh Chopper bicycle from the 1970s, and games, fancy dress items, comics and books from almost every decade in between.
