There are audio-visual displays, exhibitions and activities for children, as well as traditional museum displays and historic buildings. The Victorian pumping station, with its original machinery, displays 19th century engineering and technology. Exhibits on Cambridge's forgotten industries reveal another side of the city's history, for example Hawthorn Davey steam engines, 1909 gas engines, a 1923 boiler, as well as a working steam winch, a narrow gauge haulage railway and a print room. The story continues into the 20th century with exhibitions on innovative local businesses in the new Pye Building.
