Lake Antiniotissa, Corfu

On the north-east coast of Corfu, near Agios Spiridon beach, Lake Antiniotissa is an important wetland area that is enclosed with a Natura 2000 nature protection area.

It is famous for being the “Lake of Lilies” where the Durrell family often picnicked. The lake has a diverse ecosystem, like the endangered otter species called Lutra Lutra as well as wild frogs and birds. Surrounding the lake are thickets of reed and bamboo, rare orchid species and other wild flora. You can hike around the wetland on hiking trails, or use the paths along the shoreline which you can get to  by crossing a small wooden bridge at the far end of Agios Spiridon beach.
