Odeonsplatz, Munich

The best of the Platz to chill out in Munich.

A tourist hotspot, Odeonsplatz is one of the famous squares in Munich. It is also the well-known site of Hitler’s Munich Putsch. The three large arches facing towards the square belong to the Feldherrnhalle, and near the large memorial in the distance is the Siegestor. The large yellow church on the left is the Theatinerkirche and is worth a look inside. From Odeonsplatz you can walk in to the city centre for shopping and food; towards Maxvorstadt for an injection of culture; or towards the Englischer Garten for some relaxation. The Hofgarten is also right next to you and is definitely worth a visit. As opposed to Marienplatz or Karlsplatz, Odeonsplatz is a calm square with very little hustle and bustle, being a little further out of the centre than these two places. There are some top bars and restaurants in this area and it is a good location to spend an evening having a drink or just people watching.
