Audiosphere: Sound Experimentation 1980-2020, Exhibition, Reina Sofia, 30 September 2020-11 January 2021

The exhibition was organised by Francisco López with the aim of reflecting on the techno-cultural changes  since the 1980s. It covers the historical and cultural void that has affected recent changes within the artistic conception of sound creation. As a result, the exhibition features artwork by 810 artists from 80 different countries and from six continents. Most of these artists will be unknown to most visitors, which is part of the exhibition’s charm.

This exhibition is unique because it looks at sound works from a social perspective rather than simply creating a timeline of audio. The display is split into seven sections each one addressing different social, technological, historical and cultural developments: genealogies, networks, mega accessibility, cyborgisation, aesthetogenesis, recombination and rights. This is one of the first times these developments have been identified and analysed artistically.
