Public Garden Muzio de Tommasini, Trieste

Commonly called Public Garden, it was realised from 1854 to 1864 on grounds previously belonging to Benedectine nuns.

It’s an enormous park of 30.000 square metres.

The original idea was to build a church and a new residential area on that ground; anyway, the project failed and Muzio de Tommasini, the major of Trieste, opted for the park.

This place is particularly famous because it’s mentioned more and more time in the romance ‘Zeno’s Conscience’ by Italo Svevo.

In this garden you can find a cafeteria, a gazebo for concerts, a big area devoted to children (with many games like a giant chessboard to play chess or checkers) and, in the most recently built part, even some sculpture honouring distinguished citizens in the field of culture.

In this park you’ll enjoy the contact with nature: in fact, this garden hosts more than 360 different species of big trees, including some exotic species.
