The Dom Luís I Bridge, or Luís I Bridge, is a double-deck metal arch bridge that spans the River Douro between the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal. At its construction, its 172 metres span was the longest of its type in the world.
Dedicated to Louis of Braganza, king of Portugal, it was built between 1881 and 1886 by the Belgian engineer Théophile Seyrig, who a few years earlier had built the nearby Maria Pia bridge together with Gustave Eiffel.
The bridge was built for road traffic, which ran on two levels. Since 2003, the upper level has been used only by the trains of the city tramway and pedestrians.
