Church of St. Peter, Zurich

Zurich’s oldest and only baroque Parish church was built in the 9th-century and its clock face is also Europe’s largest, at almost 9m in diameter.

The five bells in the tower, installed in 1880, were used to tune those of Zurich’s other churches, so when they ring a perfect harmony fills the city. Now, aside from serving as a church, it also holds concerts and workshops, as well as guided tours. Make sure you visit the watchman’s quarters in the tower, which were manned until 1911, then take in the view at the top.
