On the right bank of Lake Zurich is a Chinese garden funded by Kunming, Zurich’s twin city in 1994.
The design is an example of ‘‘three friends in Winter’’- an important theme in Chinese culture consisting of the pine tree, bamboo and plum. They don't wither during Winter, symbolising perseverance amid adversity. There are inscriptions, paintings and a pond in the middle, as well as pavilions and a small palace, the whole thing being surrounded by an unmistakably Chinese red-roofed wall.
