Maja Vukoje, Belvedere, Vienna: 12 November 2020-25 April 2021

This is archived material. It is for reference purposes only.

For the first time since 2015, the colourful and vibrant creations of award-winning artist Maja Vukoje will return to Vienna.

Born in Dusseldorf in 1969 and graduate of the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, the work of Maja Vukoje will be shown at the Belvedere between November 2020 and April 2021 in her largest exhibition yet. This exhibition is set to show a collection of Vukoje’s creations from the last 15 years, with a particular emphasis on her most recent work.

Vukoje is one of the most versatile painters in Europe, often combining spray paints, acrylics, watercolour and powerful brush strokes within the same work. She is also known for using vivid colours and strong contrasts between light and dark shades in order to portray intense emotion. Throughout her career, Vukoje has been interested in cultural transformation, often contrasting images of tradition and modernism to demonstrate the changing nature of the world we live in.
