Charles Gounod's adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is one of the highlights of the Paris Opera 2022-2023 season. Book your tickets in advance.
Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette, an incomparable masterpiece of the French repertoire, makes its grand return to the Paris Opera stage after a forty-year absence. Skilfully combining opéra-comique and grand romantic opera, and playing on all registers, from the most brilliant to the most dramatic, the composer proposes music of extreme refinement and a highly elegant declamatory style. Carlo Rizzi directs a cast of the finest French and international singers, in a production by the Shakespeare specialist Thomas Jolly.
