SAMPLER 3. Anti-books, Exhibition, CED-MACBA, Barcelona: 25 September 2019-7 February 2020

This third exhibition in the series emphasizes the work of three artists: Hanne Darboven, Solomon LeWitt and Dieter Roth.

Darboven created numerical series -resulting from complex mathematical operations based on calendar figures- to describe the passage of time. Sol LeWitt, who considered books an optimal form of artistic expression for his creations, and thus materialized his vision on a collection of books created throughout his life. The sequence of the pages allowed him to develop his concepts progressively, either by evolving geometric drawings or by making chromatic variations on the same subject. And last but not least, artist Dieter Roth, best known for his works based on the use of organic material that degrade over time. However, some of his works of the seventies focus on forms of expression of the minimalist movement such as the combination of geometric shapes and primary colors.

The exhibition, curated by Estel Fabregat also features books by John Baldessari, Robert Barry, Stanley Brouwn, Chuck Close, Agnes Denes, Peter Downsbrough, Jackie Ferrara, Marco Gastini, Robert Jack, Richard Kostelanetz, Jeffrey Lew, Bruce Nauman, Edda Renouf, Fred Sandback and Paul Zelevansky.
