Mosquée de Paris

One of France’s largest mosques, decorated in an elaborate Iberian Muslim mudéjar style with a bright green roof, the building is an architectural marvel.

The Great Mosque of Paris was built in 1926 in honour of the Muslim light infantry skirmishers in the French colonies (tirailleurs) who fought against Germany in the Second World War

Its history, however, is even more impressive: during the Holocaust, the mosque sheltered persecuted Jews and issued hundreds of forged Muslim identity certificates.

Guided tours are offered nearly every day to visitors wishing to learn more about the wonderful art and architecture of the mosque or hear its fascinating history in more depth.

According to Islam, the mosque is also open during each of the five hours of prayer for those wishing to pray and pay their respects.
