Musée d’Art et d’Histoire du Judaisme, Paris

The art and history shown at the Museum of Art and History of Judaism are hugely varied,  ranging from manuscripts to medieval tombstones. A definite plus is that it's in a stunning 17th-Century hôtel particular (townhouse) in the Marais?

Dedicated to the Parisian Jewish Parisian community which is  particularly prevalent in this area of Paris, the museum was inaugurated in 1986 when Jacques Chirac, the Mayor of Paris at this time, converted the Hotel de Saint-Aignan into a museum. It is one of the 14 museums belonging to la Ville de Paris.

Jam-packed with information and artefacts, it's best to leave three to four hours to properly cover the whole of this museum. The art and history shown are hugely varied with everything from manuscripts to medieval tombstones. The collections give you a profound impression of Judaism from the Middle Ages to the modern-day.
