After the End of the World, Exhibition, CCCB, Barcelona: 25 October 2017-29 April 2018

An immersive exhibition experience which contemplates our impact on the Earth and explores ideas for educating future generations for a more sustainable future.

In December 2015, 195 countries all over the world signed the Paris Climate Agreement, in a bid to slow down climate change and ensure the safety of future generations. This faces us with a huge environmental challenge: by 2100 we will have to stop emitting CO2 and give up fossil fuels forever - a reality that is difficult to imagine, but one that we all need to come to terms with. If these objectives are not met, the Earth in 2100 will be three to four degrees hotter than today, and we will be faced with extreme conditions that we are unlikely to survive.

This hard-hitting exhibition is about planet Earth today and addresses the impact that humankind has had on our planet’s natural systems, irreversibly transforming it into an Anthropocene planet (that’s to say, a planet which has adapted to human interference in its ecosystems). The exhibition highlights the accumulative speed at which we are hurtling towards an unknown future, and presents us with terrifying facts about the lengths that we have gone to feed our ever growing consumption needs, which have tripled in the last 50 years alone.

Artists, philosophers, scientists, novelists, speculative designers, playwrights, plants, architects and environmentalists have come together to create eight immersive installations to really engage our minds. Each installation pod or room is a completely different experience, each telling a different story, making a different point, or devising a different survival strategy for successful cohabitation in the second half of the 21st Century.
