Fondation Vincent van Gogh, Arles, Provence

It was in Arles that Van Gogh produced, within the space of just 15 months, some of his finest works. The foundation honours both his talent and his lasting impact on modern art, with exhibitions of his own work and of his contemporaries.

The Fondation Van Gogh was founded by Yolande Clergue in 1983. Two years later, Clergue proposed introducing a collection by contemporary artists, in tribute to Van Gogh. More than 90 artists contributed, and their works show the lasting influence that Van Gogh has on modern art.

By 2008, the foundation became a permanent dedication to Van Gogh, with activities, exhibitions and seminars preserving his memory and encouraging contemporary art.
