Every year during the month of December, Strasbourg lives up to its nickname ‘Capitale de Noël’ (‘The Christmas Capital’).

Once you’ve visited the Strasbourg Christmas Market, it’s easy to see why the French city has earned the nickname ‘Capitale de Noël’ (‘The Christmas Capital’). Christmas lovers from around Europe gather in the downtown area surrounding the magnificent Cathedral of Strasbourg to wander around the vast array of stalls selling food, arts and crafts, decorations and other goods typical of the Holiday season.

The Strasbourg Christmas Market has been around since 1570, making it the oldest market of its kind in Europe. Different editions have welcomed different guest countries, in addition to the more than 300 wooden houses, a Children’s Village, concerts, shows, exhibitions and a Winter circus, all held on the streets that, as usual, boost the Holiday spirit with their festive lights and decor.

Main Addresses

Strasbourg Cathedral, Gutenberg Square, Kléber Square, St. Thomas Square  and selected churches and chapels around the city.
