The exhibition offers an unrepeatable opportunity to retrace an era of profound changes in the stylistic canons and aesthetic taste of ancient Rome.

The Rome of the Republic exhibition is the second chapter of the cycle "The story of Archeology", inaugurated with the exhibition "The Rome of the Kings", July 2018-June 2019. This sequel installation offers an unrepeatable opportunity to reflect on an era of profound changes in the stylistic canons and aesthetic taste of ancient Rome: one of the fundamental moments for the future cultural and artistic identity of Rome; the moment of consolidation of social, political, territorial structures with the birth of the Republic and its life cycle until the creation of the Empire which is made to coincide with the famous battle of Actium of 31 BC.

The exhibition will feature masterpieces and discoveries found in the territory of the city of Rome as part of the largest collection in the world of Roman archeology, including statues, some of impressive size, refined bronze and terracotta works, entire sculptural cycles, friezes and home furnishings in bronze and silver of the highest stylistic value. They come together to explore a crucial period for development of Western art. The period of time taken into consideration includes the beginnings of the fifth and the middle of the first century B.C. This is the period in which the ruling elite is increasingly aware of the consolidation of its prestige, expressing it through art. The itinerary of the exhibition will clearly describe the evolution of Roman art in the republican period which, in about five centuries, from the influence of the previous Etruscan art, passing through the important assumption of Greek models, a real keystone, will arrive to achieve an all-Roman originality in form.
