Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh

Set in the grounds of the 19th-century Bonnington House, it’s hard to believe this contemporary sculpture park with its whacky outdoor exhibits is just seven kilometres from Edinburgh’s city centre.

It was established by art collectors Robert and Nicky Wilson in 1999, spreading out over the house’s 120-acres of woodland and open parkland. If you’re in Edinburgh between May and September (when Jupiter Artland is open) check out this sculpture park, especially Charles Jencks’ Cells of Life, a surreal landform of man-made, angular hills rising out the ground.
