Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, Liverpool

This is the largest Catholic cathedral in England and a prominent landmark of Liverpool’s skyline.

The cathedral itself had a less than smooth construction, with work beginning in 1853 and failing, work began again in 1933 on the site of the old Poor Law Institution or Work House. The Cathedral you see today, however, is the product of the work of architect Sir Frederick Gibberd in 1962. There is a guided tour available for the Cathedral, as well as a shop and café. You are also welcomed to join services if you wish.
