The Royal West of England Academy was Bristol’s first art gallery.
Housed in its original purpose built building, it has an extensive programme of exhibitions, events, workshops, talks and lectures, regularly featuring work by leading contemporary artists alongside works from the past. Their permanent collection has 1700 works of art mainly by artists based in the South West, the majority of which are paintings but also contains drawings, prints, sculpture, archives, artefacts and architectural models. Some of the key artists on display include Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant, Dod Procter and Mary Fedden amongst many others.
