LA FORCE DU DESTIN- OPERA BASTILLE- 14 November - 17 December 2012

Located in the historical Place de la Bastille area, L'Opéra Bastille (Bastille Opera) is home to many of Paris's opera and ballet performances. From its inauguration in 1989, this modern opera house has played host for renowned performances from a wide variety of artists. Falling in love with someone usually entails happiness and romance but not in Giuseppe Verdi's La force du destin, where two lovers find themselves fighting for their love. When Don Alvaro arrives to Seville from South America, he finds himself enchanted by the beautiful Donna Leonora who is daughter of the Marquis of Calatrava. Despite their differences in social hierarchy, their love for one another is one that cannot be unmatached. However, disapproval of Dona Alvaro by Leonora's father begins a chain of events that pull these two lovers away. As time passes by and each moves on with their lives, they come to realize that their love remains strong through the power of fate. Performed in French and featuring Mario Luperi as the the Marquis of Calatrava, Violeta Urmana as Donna Leonora with Marcelo Alvarez and Zoran Todorovitch (only 23 November, 5, 15, 17 December) as Don Alvaro. Phillippe Jordan will be conductor alongside the Paris Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
