There are many sushi and Japanese restaurants around Lyon, but for a taste of authentic Japanese ramen head to the small and modest Ramen Djizan on the corner of a street directly opposite the Saône, just a few minutes walk from Hôtel de Ville. Their simple and delicious menu, written on a large blackboard above the small seating area, gives you the choice of four types of ramen noodle soup (one of them vegetarian) from €9.50, as well as a choice of Japanese dumplings, drinks and desserts. If you’re feeling adventurous then try their green tea ice cream (€4.50) or finish your meal off with a glass of traditional Japanese sake (€6). The restaurant’s filling bowls of hot ramen and their welcoming atmosphere mean it’s the ideal escape for a comforting lunch on a cold day.
