Casa de Campo is an oasis on the western edge of Madrid, a huge attraction for sports enthusiasts and families alike.
At 1722 hectares, Casa de Campo is the largest park in Madrid, a sprawling expanse of gardens, woods and public attractions. Formerly outfitted as a hunting lodge of the royal family, and later the site of several battles during the Spanish Civil War, and later, the park was opened to the public in 1931. Today it is an oasis on the western edge of Madrid, a huge attraction for sports enthusiasts and families alike.
In addition to the hundreds of kilometres of walking and biking trails, the park also features a large lake, popular among kayakers and swimmers, as well as a full amusement park, a zoo and a cable car which connects it to the Parque del Oeste. The Amusement park has all of the traditional carnival rides, including a funhouse and a ferris wheel, in addition to three full-sized roller coasters.
If you're looking to take a break from walking and get a bite to eat, the Paseo de la Gastronomía along the Calle Principal de las Provincias has some of the best restaurants in Madrid.
