Museum of Fine Arts, Split

Housed in a building dating back to 1792, the museum includes more than 3,500 works of art dating from the 14th century up to the present day.

It was created for an exhibition on the peninsula in 1908, to  introduce modern art to the city. The museum's permanent collection includes more than 3,500 works of art dating from the 14th century up to the present day.

It also has one of the richest icon collections in Croatia, with works from the 15th to 19th century on display. The early section covers the 14th to the 18th centuries, while the collection of contemporary art contains works of Croatian artists from the 1950s to the present day. Among the artists are Paolo Veneziano, Juraj Ćulinović, Andrea Alessi, Albrecht Dürer, and others.

The modern art collection of the 19th century forms the largest part of the museum's holdings. Artists displayed from that period include Vlaho Bukovac, Emanuel Vidović, Mato Celestin Medović.

The first floor was designed with a covered atrium and north terrace with space for concerts, lectures and other performances throughout the year. If you’re feeling peckish drop into the café where they offer delicious coffee and pastries.
