Klis Fortress, Klis

This mediaeval fortress is situated above a village bearing the same name, between the mountains of Mosor and Kozjak. The latter is one of the most important fortresses in Croatia, for  historic and strategic reasons. It was built by the Illyrian tribe Delmati in the 2nd century BC.

In 1537, the fort was handed over to the  Turkish  after the execution of Captain Petar Kružić. After 111 years of Ottoman rule, the Venetians liberated the fortress and converted it into a fortification fortress. The  Meereen city from the Game of Thrones series was filmed there.

At the foothill there is an Interpretation centre, where centuries-old stories of the historical city of Klis are shown in a 3D projection. Your ticket  also includes a visit to ethno-agro park Stella Croatica, where you can  see how people used to live and work and  taste the specialties of Dalmatian cuisine.
