Diocletian's Cellars, Split

Underneath the Diocletian’s Palace are the vaulted cellars, a series of interconnected chambers and passageways creating a network of underground rooms which include water wells which were used in the Middle Ages.

The cellars gradually fell into ruin until the 19th century, when  work began to excavate, drain and clear the collapsed sections.
