Rector's Palace, Dubrovnik

A visit to the Rector's Palace provides an intriguing insight into Dubrovnik's governance, lifestyle and cultural heritage during the period of its powerful maritime republic.

A mixture of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architectural elements, the Rector's Palace was once the seat of the Rector of the Republic of Ragusa (the former name of Dubrovnik) when it was an independent maritime republic,  during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

Inside, there is a courtyard, surrounded by columns and arches; the office, where the Rector conducted his official business, with original furniture and a museum which has lots of bits and pieces offering a glimpse into Dubrovnik's political and cultural history.
