The colourful, hand made satchels, based on the original, brown leather, English school child’s satchel have become a must-have fashion accessory. Julie Deane and her mother Freda Thomas started making the satchels at the kitchen table to pay for private school fees for Deane's children. Today the company has its own Cambridge Satchel factory near Leicester.
